Resolve

At the outset of the year, I decided that I wanted to improve, but resolutions were not exactly for me.  But I did want to think about what was IMPORTANT for me, and keep those at the forefront whenever possible. My list:
  • Fit
  • Control
  • Compassion
  • Strength
  • Wisdom
  • Honour
They aren't fully formed resolutions: Just things that were important to consider.
And they were about balance. Controlling food but not being compassionate to myself, for example, would not be a 'win'.
Anyway, I was being a bit scared about the upcoming meet, and one of the Mavens referred to something that reminded me to check my list.   My fear is allowed a voice: she is trying to protect me. So I should have compassion for myself, and not be embarrassed that I am afraid.  But it won't decide.

Compassion… hopefully

I'm on another business trip this week. I got into the gym yesterday, but now I won't be back until Friday.  That means three days out of my home gym.
And I have an event on Saturday with a girlfriend, that means no training with Jerimiah on Saturday either.
Of course there is a gym at the hotel; and Jerimiah mentioned the same.  But.....
I hit the snooze button almost a dozen times this morning.   I'm tired.  Two of my last three workouts were really frustrating.  And business travel is tiring.
So.... While  I'm going to see how I feel, I decided I won't go to the gym here unless I really feel like it.

Compassion (along with restraint, control and some others) is one of my themes for this year.   Including compassion for myself.
I'm hoping this decision is a compassionate one and not a lazy one.

Worrying about the wrong thing....

Had a crappy day in the gym. I was PT-less but should have been ok.  The target was set in a text the night before....
Picture
I checked video of what felt like ass-to-grass 135#.... And it was barely parallel.  I worked up anyway . 140 and 145 were about the same.   I finished with the triples and consoled myself that while my depth wasn't cutting it, that I had done the work and it would at least contribute to improvement.
I told JW the same.  He wanted to know why I had not backed off on the weight and focused on depth.   :(
And its cause I didn't have depth anyway....

And then, he reminded me of what he actually told me to do....

Oops. No.  No I did not.   And we had talked about it.  Argh!
So if I feel good tomorrow.... I'll go in and just do something light... But hang out at the bottom.  Like me told  too.
And that is why I still need a PT.

  • Get up early, a bit sleepy but also a bit looking forward to the gym
  • Make husband a coffee.  Get a kiss.
  • Eat a simple breakfast, and enjoy a soy latte.
  • Hit the gym;  squat, squat, squat.

  • Eat a simple breakfast, and enjoy a soy latte.
  • Hit the gym;  squat, squat, squat.
  • Endorphins surge; feel pretty good!
  • Get to work;  still feeling charged and happy.
  • Get a lot done.... 'cause I am unstoppable!
  • Have a GREAT day at work.
  • Go to a happy home.
  • Chill with hubby.  Couch time is good, and I already worked hard today.
  • Go to bed: set alarm for 5 AM, because this cycle is magic....
  • Repeat...

Jerimiah told me to work up to at least 140# for one every day for a week.  Today is day 1.140 felt good so I went for 145...and then 150#.   The pic is just the 140#    .....Video evidence of the buck-and-a-half is on Instagram @rzales.

A quick peek back...

I am visiting Montreal this week... and went into our local office after a client visit, and Immediately ran into someone I trained on Project Management - in a 3 day session in Oct 2014.

She was like “Woah!  Look at you, blah, blah….”.  And reminded me that when I trained them, I had talked about adult learning, and how I had just joined a gym and was having to hold someones hand in order to squat, or I’d fall over.  I guess I used it as an analogy to some other topic in the sessions.

Anyway, I was 35# heavier then.  And probably walking with a bit more swagger now.  :)   ......And she said … “I guess you figured it out . "

Yeah, I guess I did!

I don't know how that warrants a full post, but it does.   I have been like "I feel great.  I love gym on Friday. Wow, I feel pumped. blah blah blah ." So.... either I am having a bit of a moment.... or there's something to this Friday thing. It's happened before, so I am going with the latter.
